Bearwood Community in Action

Bearwood Community in Action was formed after a meeting of local residents arranged by Poole Borough Council in September 1999.  The meeting was called because of the lack of public facilities in Bearwood, and a poorly supported Community Centre.  Subsequent meetings were held monthly, always attended by local councillors and representatives from the Council.

A newsletter Bearwood Roundup was launched with an initial grant from Awards for All, and is still delivered regularly by loyal volunteers to every house in Bearwood. The Bearwood Gardening Club was formed in April 2000.

Over the years we have organised litter picks, planted 8,000 daffodil bulbs, obtained a bench seat in Runnymede Avenue and arranged three coach trips a year. We had also endeavoured for years to get involved with the Community Centre to increase its use. Several of our members helped form a new committee for the Centre in April 2005, which in due course regained charity status and underwent a total refurbishment. The Centre now has a full range of activities and is a popular venue.

Having achieved most of our earlier objectives, Bearwood Community in Action Committee now meets twice yearly.
